What is this book?
Write & Wipe is a series designed to make basic skills feel achievable instead of repetitive. A child writes on the page with an erasable marker, wipes it clean and tries again as many times as needed before moving on. Colourful pictures sit beside plain, simple instructions. The preface explains that the book aims to help children practise and consolidate their mathematical skills, and that the teacher's notes on each page help whoever is running the lesson.

- Number sense (topics 1 to 3). Patterns, comparing numbers, and tens and units.

- Reading and telling (topics 11 to 13). Numbers in words, time on the hour and ordinal numbers (first, second, third).
- Shapes, measures and money (topics 14 to 17). 3-D shapes, measurements, a "Shopping Time" page and wholes and halves.
Why a write-and-wipe book?
- Practice without fear. A mistake wipes away. Children try again without a messy page.
- One book, many times. The same page can be used again by the same child, so extra practice at home costs nothing.
- Notes for the adult. The built-in teacher's notes tell the person running the lesson how to use each page.
- Good fine-motor practice. Writing numbers with a marker builds control for the later years.
Who is it for?
Prep students on the Allied School list, about five years old, and the parents and teachers who use it. You will need an erasable marker and a cloth or tissue.
How to help at home
- Use a dry-erase marker, never a permanent one, and check it on a corner first.
- Say the question aloud and let your child answer before writing.
- Let your child wipe the page themselves; it feels like a game.
- Return to the same page after a week to see how much easier it is.

Making number practice fun
Because every page can be wiped clean, a child can try again without the fear of a "wrong" answer. That is a great gift for maths, where many children worry about mistakes.
- Use a marker made to be wiped, and test it on a corner of the page first.
- Make it a game: "Can you beat your last time?" Wipe and race the clock.
- Use real things as helpers: beads, coins, blocks or bottle caps, for counting and number lines.
- Say each answer aloud before writing it.
- Praise effort ("You counted carefully") and not only the right answer.
Keep sessions to about fifteen minutes. If a topic is hard, put the book away and come back the next day. You will be surprised how often the answer appears after a night's sleep.
