Smart Urdu ki Amli Kitab, Miyaad Awwal (سمارٹ اردو کی عملی کتاب، میعاد اول) is the first-term Urdu activity book on The Smart School Prep list on this site. The cover shows five hot-air balloons, each labelled with a skill of the book (the Urdu words for letters, word building, creative writing, joining and breaking words and sentence making), over a green meadow with daisies, with the tag "ابتدائی (حصہ سوم)". This page is written for the 2027-28 session, with guidance in English for parents. We have the cover and one inside page of this book, so this page describes only what those photographs show and the way the book is used; it does not list lessons that we have not seen.

What is this book?
The five balloons on the cover are the five skills of the book: letters (huroof), word building (alfaz sazi, making words from letters), creative writing (takhleeqi likhai), joining and breaking (tor jor, splitting a word into letters and joining letters into a word) and sentence making (jumla sazi). A Prep child works on all five across the year.
The inside page we photographed is headed حروفِ تہجی and shows three blocks: the whole alphabet in a cream box; a second block of letters whose forms are not halved (Daal, Ddaal, Zaal, Raay, Rray, Zay, Zhay, Zuad, Zoay, Waaw and a few more, which do not join to the next letter); and a third block with the half forms of the letters that do join (the shapes they take at the start and middle of a word).
Why half forms matter
In Urdu, most letters change shape when they sit inside a word. A letter that joins to the next one uses a shortened "half form", and a letter that does not join keeps its whole shape. The page we photographed lays out both kinds side by side. A Prep child who studies them can see why Bay looks different at the start of بات than it does alone.
Letters that do not join
The second block shows the letters that never join to the letter after them: Alif, Daal, Ddaal, Zaal, Raay, Rray, Zay, Zhay and Waaw. Knowing this list makes reading and writing simpler, because it explains why some words have gaps: after one of these letters the next letter starts afresh.
Word building at home
- Pick a letter family and make three-letter words from it.
- Write the letters of the word apart, then join them.
- Cut a word into letter cards and put them in order.
- Make a sentence with the word and say it aloud.
A balloon drawn for each skill on a sheet of paper, ticked each week, makes the plan visible.
How the term fits together
The five skills build on each other. Letters come first, then half forms and word building, then joining and breaking, and finally sentences. Creative writing runs alongside, with short pieces from a picture.
