Letters, phonics and grammar together

Letters m to z are introduced as "words starting with letter" pages.
Phonics blends such as sh, ck, br, tr, ph, wh and fr teach children to read groups of letters as one sound.
Grammar appears in small steps: is and are, adjectives, opposites, action words, masculine and feminine, and "wh" question words.
Writing and speaking are practised through word sentences, picture description and "talk about the pictures".

The three themes

Healthy Habits covers manners, eating and good habits. Animal World covers animals, pets and a farm. World Around Me covers people, objects, best friends, foods, games, story books and nursery rhymes. A "Certificate" page at the very end gives the child a proud finish.

Why a second term matters

In the second term children move from reading single letters to reading whole sentences. The reinforcement pages at the end of each unit are good for revision before the end-of-term exam.
