One number at a time

Almost every page introduces one number: how to say it, how to write it and how to show it with pictures. A four-year-old needs this slow pace, because a numeral is a symbol that must be linked to a quantity before it means anything.

Ideas beyond counting

Alongside the numbers, the book introduces ordinal numbers (first, second, third), the days of the week, what comes before, heavy and light, backward counting, sets, time, before and after, take away, patterns, ordering shapes, above and below, over and under, and two less. These are the building blocks of Class 1 maths.
