What is this book?
The Class 8 book completes the middle-school geography course. It follows the same three-part structure as Classes 6 and 7 (physical, human and environmental geography) and moves on to oceans and seas, living with the climate, social and economic development, transport, pollution, and industrialisation and international trade.
A thirteen-year-old now looks at the world as a system: how oceans affect climate, how countries develop, and how industry and pollution are linked. This kind of joined-up thinking is what Class 9 geography will ask for, so it is worth building the habit now.

The six chapters in plain words
- Oceans and seas and Living with the climate (physical geography).
- Social and economic development and Transport and its importance (human geography).
- Environmental pollution and Industrialisation and international trade (environmental geography).
The order moves from nature to people and then to the effects people have on nature.
Thinking like a geographer
Class 8 questions are often "why" and "what if". Why do some countries develop faster? What happens to a river when a factory is built beside it? Encourage your child to answer with a cause and an effect, and to use a map or a chart to support the answer.
Map practice
The book ends with a glossary, a world map, an outline world map and an outline map of Pakistan. Print extra copies of the outline maps at home and label them from memory before tests.
