What is this book?

The book is based on the National Curriculum of Pakistan 2022 and has lines on the front for the child's name, section and school, so it can be used straight away. The cover shows a giant red letter A beside the letters B and C, with children flying paper planes and reading on a grassy hill.

Because it is the First Term book, it covers only A to M. The Second Term book carries the child on from N to Z.

How a letter is taught

Each letter comes with a picture topic. Letter A comes with My Body and My Family, B with My Home and Rooms in my home, D with Plants and Parts of a Tree, F with the Flag of Pakistan, H with Farm Animals, and M with safety topics such as Sharp Objects, Fire Safety and Stranger is Danger. A child learns the letter shape, the sound and a handful of words from the topic at the same time.

More than letters

Units 3 and 6 include a Blending page, which starts to join sounds into short words, and the last unit ends with Story Books and Nursery Rhymes, so a child finishes the term having met a first story and a few songs. Units 3 and 4 add pride in Pakistan (the flag, important personalities and my homeland) and a look at animals and their sounds.

Who is it for, and when is it used?

It is for Nursery children at Army Public Schools, about four years old, and is used in the first term of the school year. A parent can use it at home to practise the letter of the week, say the picture words and trace the letters.

Trace the letter in the air and then on paper.
Look for the letter of the week on signs and packets.
Sing the nursery rhymes at the end of the book.
Talk about safety topics calmly: sharp things, fire and strangers.
