What is this book?
Class 6 is the first year in which geography is taught as a separate subject. The book is organised into three branches: physical geography, human geography and environmental geography. Six chapters cover the structure of the Earth, mountains, climates, forests, natural disasters and the way human activity changes the planet.
The cover picture sums it up: snow-capped mountains above a green valley, a cracked dry riverbed and a flock of sheep, the Earth in all its variety.

Using the book with an atlas
Geography is much easier when the page and the map are open together.
- Chapter 1, rocks: look at three small rocks, or pictures of them, and decide whether they are igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic.
- Chapter 2, mountains, plateaus and valleys: find the Himalayas, Karakoram and Hindu Kush on the outline map of Pakistan.
- Chapter 3, climatic regions: on the world outline map, colour the hot, temperate and cold zones in three colours.
- Chapter 4, forests: note which forests are in tropical, temperate and cold regions.
- Chapter 5, natural disasters: read about floods and earthquakes in Pakistan and discuss how to prepare.
- Chapter 6, a changing Earth: list three ways your family can reduce waste.
Why the blank maps matter
The back of the book has a world map, an outline world map and an outline map of Pakistan. Labelling blank maps is a skill that is tested in most geography exams, and the book gives a child room to practise it.
Why this book?
- Clear division into physical, human and environmental geography.
- Glossary and blank maps at the back for practice.
- Written for Army Public Schools only.
Who is it for, and when is it used?
It is for Class 6 students at Army Public Schools, about eleven years old, and is the main geography textbook of the year. At home, an atlas or a globe beside the book makes the chapters concrete.
How to help at home
- Keep an atlas open when your child reads each chapter.
- Print extra copies of outline maps and label them from memory.
- Collect news about weather and disasters and link them to the chapters.
- Make a small rock collection.
- Quiz each other on the glossary.
