What is this book?
Class 2 science is about looking closely at the world: living things and their homes, what things are made of, light and shadows, electricity and our place in space. This book turns each unit into short, two-page lessons with questions to talk about and things to try, and ends each unit with a review.
A separate workbook for the same class, the Heinemann Explore Science Workbook 2, has 50 worksheets that follow these units. That book is also on this site.

- Materials. What rocks are, how hard materials can be, natural and made materials, how things change and what heating does.
- Light and dark. Sources of light, the Sun, using light, and how shadows form and change.
- Electricity. Circuits, how to make a simple circuit, what happens without electricity, and models.
- Earth and beyond. A galaxy far away, how the Earth spins, how the Earth moves round the Sun, and night and day.
Small experiments at home
- Look for tiny animals, called minibeasts, in a garden or a park.
- Sort five objects into hard and soft, rough and smooth.
- Heat and cool water (with an adult) and see what changes.
