How the workbook follows the Student Book

Unit 1 (worksheets 1 to 12) match the Student Book's unit on living things: exploring, habitats, minibeasts, change, caring for the environment and the weather.
Unit 2 (13 to 20) practise materials: where they come from, testing, sorting, natural or artificial, change, mixtures and dissolving.
Unit 3 (21 to 30) practise light and shadows, including sun safety.
Unit 4 (31 to 43) practise electricity at home, circuits, safety and symbols.
Unit 5 (44 to 50) practise Earth and beyond, shadows, the year, and night and day.

Using a workbook well

Do the worksheet soon after the lesson, while the idea is fresh. Read each instruction aloud, let your child try alone, then check the answers together. If your child struggles with a worksheet such as the minibeast identification key, go back to the Student Book page and look at the pictures again before trying a second time.

Safety first for electricity

Four worksheets in Unit 4 are about electricity at home and the danger of mains electricity. Please talk about this with your child: never touch sockets, plugs or wires with wet hands, and only build circuits with batteries, with an adult beside you.
