What is this book?
A seven-year-old uses devices every day but may not know what to call their parts or how to use them with care. Computer Whiz 2 starts there: where do we see computers, what are the input and output devices, how is data entered, and how do we draw and save a picture in Paint 3D? It then adds the first idea of coding, an algorithm as a sequence of instructions, and ends with safe and kind behaviour online.
The contents page is unusual because it lists the learning outcomes for each chapter in plain sentences that begin "Students will be able to". That makes it easy for a parent or a teacher to see exactly what a child should be able to do by the end of the chapter.

What students will be able to do, chapter by chapter
Domain A: Emerging Technologies
- 01 Uses of Computers (p. 1). Identify uses of computer devices in homes, schools, offices, airports and grocery stores; compare how computers help people in many ways in different places; illustrate uses of computers for entertainment, communication, research and more.
- 02 Computer Hardware (p. 11). Identify common input and output devices; use input devices as tools that show information from the computer; use output devices as tools that show what the computer is working on, or that play sounds.
Domain B: Digital Skills
- 03 Handling Data (p. 19). Understand how data is entered into computers; add events on a calendar app; make calculations with the calculator app; enter data in the Notepad app through lists and text.
- 04 MS Paint 3D (p. 28). Open and close Paint 3D; use the drawing tools; tell a story from the imagination in a picture; see the art in 3D view; save the artwork on the computer.
Domain C: Computational Thinking and Coding
- 05 Simplifying Instructions (p. 36). Define an algorithm as a sequence of instructions; understand that a missing step in a sequence leads to errors; find errors in a sequence.
Domain D: Digital Citizenship
- 06 Digital Citizenship (p. 46). Define digital citizenship; write and simplify instructions; understand why safety matters when using the Internet; use respectful language when addressing people online; take care when posting personal information online.
Why start with uses and hardware?
Naming things comes before using them. When a child can say "keyboard", "mouse", "monitor" and "speaker", and tell which ones put information in and which ones show or play it, every later instruction in class becomes easier to follow. The first two chapters also remind children that computers are not only in a lab: they are in shops, airports, hospitals and homes.
Hands-on skills in chapters 3 and 4
Chapter 3 gives real, everyday uses of apps: put a birthday on the calendar, work out a sum on the calculator, write a shopping list in Notepad. Chapter 4 is the creative one. Paint 3D lets a child draw, colour, turn an image around and save it, which builds mouse control and a sense of pride in a finished piece of work.
Why this book?
- Learning outcomes are printed for every chapter, so parents know what to expect.
- Four domains give a balanced year: knowledge, skills, thinking and behaviour.
- Short, clear chapters suit a seven-year-old once a week in the computer lab.
Who is it for, and when is it used?
It is for Class 2 children, about seven years old, and is used in the weekly computer period. Parents can use the contents list to follow the school's pace, and to ask "what did you draw in Paint 3D this week?".
How to help at home
- Point to the parts of a computer or tablet at home and ask your child to name them and say whether each is for input or output.
- Let your child add a family birthday to a calendar app.
- Play "robot": give your child three steps to follow, then leave one out and see what goes wrong. That is an algorithm.
- Draw first on paper, then on screen.
- Agree on simple online rules: ask an adult first, be kind, never share personal details.
