Quick facts

What is this book?

At eight years old, children can learn to read longer parts of the Quran with the correct pronunciation, learn what each act of worship means, and hear the story of the Prophet's early life. This book follows a clear order: first the Quran and hadith, then faith and worship (the oneness of Allah, the Azan, wudu and namaz), then the seerah, then manners, then the prophets and the first caliph, and last health and fitness.

A glossary (Farhang) at page 70 explains the difficult words.

How the chapters fit together

  1. The Quran and hadith teach reading (Paras 3 to 8), short surahs by heart, a hadith and supplications.
  2. Belief and worship explain tauheed, prophethood, and then the Kalima, the Azan, wudu, namaz and the Qibla and mosque.
  3. The Prophet's life tells of his early years and his truthfulness, trustworthiness, tolerance and patience.
  4. Manners cover truth and the manners of conversation.
  5. Relationships are about how we behave with each other.
  6. Guidance and great people introduce Hazrat Adam, Hazrat Nuh and Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq.
  7. Islamic teachings today link faith with health and fitness.

Practical steps for wudu and namaz

Chapters on the Azan, wudu and namaz are best learned by doing. Let your child watch you make wudu, then make it themselves with you beside them. Practise the movements of namaz slowly and kindly. Never rush or scold: a child who feels peaceful about prayer will love it.

Memorising with joy

Say each line of a surah slowly three times, let your child repeat it, then say it again at a fixed time of day, for example after Fajr or before bed. Short, happy sessions of ten minutes work better than one long session.
