What is this book?

Big Science is a science series from Pearson for English-medium primary schools. Every unit starts with a big question that the child tries to answer by the end of the unit, such as How do people solve problems?. This makes the book feel like an investigation, not a list of facts.

The Student Book is the main book of the series. It has nine units, each with a big question, and a glossary at the back with the science words of the year. The matching Workbook has the same units with practice pages and reviews.

Class 3 is the year when science begins to ask how things work: how the body grows, what the Earth is made of, how the Sun, Moon and planets move, why weather changes and what makes things move. The nine units of Big Science 3 are arranged in that order, from science and technology (units 1 and 2) to the living world (units 3 and 4), the Earth and sky (units 5 to 7), and matter and energy (units 8 and 9).

The cover is part of the series style: a bold BIG in a different colour for each level, a smaller SCIENCE with the level number in a circle, a child looking up with curiosity and an animal or object that suits the year.

• Ask your child to explain the answer to the big question in two sentences at the end of the unit.
