What the Pre 1 notebook list asks for

Pre 1 is the year between Nursery and Class 1, and the school's Pre I list again asks for three small notebooks: one broad four-lined, one broad-lined and one large-square notebook.

The notebooks are the same types as in Nursery, but a Pre 1 child writes longer words and short sentences in them, so a parent should check that the pages from last year are not reused and that each notebook is new. If your child is moving up from Nursery, you can set up the three new notebooks in one evening.

The notebook types and counts are read from our photograph of the school's notebook column. The subject names beside each row are not shown in the photograph, so we do not say which notebook is for which subject. Ask your class teacher or send us your stationery list on WhatsApp.

The Pre 1 year in school

Pre 1 is the bridge year. The notebooks look the same as in Nursery, but the child begins to write whole words and to count further. Across the whole school list that we photographed (Early Years Stage 2, Pre I and Class I to Class X) the number of notebooks rises from 3 to about 10 or 11.

Teachers in Pre 1 usually introduce two-letter and three-letter words, and the large-square notebook is where the first neat number writing happens. A child who finishes the year with tidy pages in all three notebooks is well prepared for the more formal Class 1.
