What is this book?
Maths Wise 1 is a Class 1 book with a friendly mascot, an octopus. The cover says it is based on the National Curriculum of Pakistan, so it follows the national plan for Class 1 maths.
The units are well ordered. Unit 1 is whole numbers (20 pages). Units 2 and 3 are number operations: addition and subtraction first, then multiplication and division. The units in four groups
Numbers (unit 1, pages 1–20). The first unit is about numbers and counting. It is one big unit of 20 pages, so children have time to settle.
Operations and fractions (units 2 to 4, pages 21–52). Addition and subtraction (13 pages), multiplication and division (15 pages) and then fractions (only 4 pages, as a first look). Money follows on page 53.
Measurement and shapes (units 6 to 8, up to page 89). Length, mass, capacity and temperature in unit 6 and time in unit 7. The two units fall between money (page 53) and geometry (page 78). Their exact starting pages are not clear in our photograph.
Data and review (unit 9 onwards, pages 90–127+). Data handling and probability opens with simple graphs and the idea of "likely and unlikely". The book then has a 23-page review and assess section with a glossary and answers at the end.
