What is this book?

For a seven-year-old, Islamiat is learned by hearing, repeating and doing. This book follows that idea. It starts with reading the Quran and learning short parts by heart, then explains what a Muslim believes (the heavenly books, the angels, the Hereafter) and does (fasting, the Eids), tells how the Prophet ﷺ loved and behaved, and ends with manners for daily life and the story of the prophets.

The book also has a glossary, called Farhang, at the end. Its pages are 56 and following, and it explains difficult words used in the lessons.

What each chapter teaches

1. The Quran and hadith. Reading with the correct pronunciation, learning surahs by heart and with their meaning, hadith, and short oral supplications.
2. Belief and worship. Belief in the books Allah sent and in the angels, the idea of the Hereafter, why Muslims fast, and the two Eids and other Islamic festivals.
3. The life of the Prophet ﷺ. Love for him, obedience to him, and the beauty of his character.
4. Manners. Islamic manners of daily life, respect for elders and kindness to animals.
5. Sources of guidance. The prophets (peace be upon them) as examples.

How to learn Islamiat with a seven-year-old

Short, regular and gentle sessions work best. Begin by saying "Bismillah" together, read one lesson aloud, ask one simple question and let your child answer in their own words. Memorise a line at a time over several days and say it at the right moment of the day, for example before eating or sleeping. Link each lesson to a small action: greet the elders, say thank you, give water to a bird. If your child asks something you cannot answer, say "let us ask your teacher or an elder". That also teaches a child that asking is good.
