What is this book?
Where Books 1 to 3 introduced the computer, drawing and documents, Book 4 moves on to Microsoft Excel, the logic of programming, and spreadsheet functions and charts. These are skills a nine-year-old can actually use, for example to keep a list, add numbers or make a chart.
The book has four units. The first three have five lessons each, and the last unit is a set of five challenges that bring everything together.

What a nine-year-old learns
- Hello MS Excel: worksheets, editing, rows and columns, workbooks and a first look at formulas.
- Hello Programming: what a program is, how a computer follows instructions, the idea of ordering commands, and a peek at a smart house.
- Hello Spreadsheets: functions, number formats, charts and outputs.
- Challenges: small projects such as a spreadsheet for Reddo, an animals table and the "Codecracker".
Why spreadsheets and coding in Class 4?
Both are about thinking in steps. A formula is a tiny program, and a chart turns numbers into a picture. Learning them early builds the logic skills that later help in maths and science.
Why this book?
- The first book in the series with coding on the cover.
- Excel skills that are useful for school projects.
- Challenges at the end make a real mini-project.
Who is it for, and when is it used?
It is for Class 4 children at Army Public Schools, about nine years old. It is used in the weekly computer period in the school lab, with the book beside the keyboard. At home it helps for revision before tests.
How to help at home
- Make a small table at home, for example family birthdays, and add a column of ages.
- Ask your child to explain a formula in words.
- Try a "robot game": give step-by-step instructions to move a toy.
- Check that each answer in a spreadsheet makes sense.
- Praise patient debugging when something does not work.
