What the Class 1 notebook list asks for

In Class 1 the notebook list grows to seven: two four-lined, one medium-square, three broad-lined and one drawing notebook, all small except the drawing book.

This is the year when writing becomes a daily habit. The four-lined notebooks are for handwriting, the square one for numbers and the broad-lined ones for longer written work, and the drawing notebook gives a child a place to colour and draw after class.

The notebook types and counts are read from our photograph of the school's notebook column. The subject names beside each row are not shown in the photograph, so we do not say which notebook is for which subject. Ask your class teacher or send us your stationery list on WhatsApp.

From the classroom

Class 1 is the first formal year. Notebooks are still small, but there are more of them and each has a clearer role. Across the whole school list that we photographed (Early Years Stage 2, Pre I and Class I to Class X) the number of notebooks rises from 3 to about 10 or 11.

Reading, writing, numbers and Urdu all begin in earnest in Class 1. The two four-lined notebooks carry the handwriting work, and the three broad-lined notebooks carry the longer writing. A child who learns to keep these five notebooks tidy in Class 1 is building a habit that will help in every later class.
