What is this book?
Class 2 maths is where numbers grow to 1000, adding and subtracting need carrying and borrowing, and multiplication and division begin. This book teaches each step in a clear order: whole numbers and place value first, then addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, then fractions, measurement, time and geometry.
Each lesson list is long and specific. A parent can see, for example, that three-digit addition is taught first without carrying and then with carrying, and that subtraction follows the same two-stage path.

The year in a nutshell
- Numbers and place value (pages 1 to 28) come first, because everything else depends on them.
- Four operations (pages 29 to 108) take up almost half the book: carrying, borrowing, times tables 2 to 10 and simple division.
- Fractions (pages 109 to 118) introduce equal parts, unit fractions and like fractions.
- Measurement and time (pages 119 to 150) use length, mass, capacity, the clock and both the solar and lunar calendars.
- Geometry (pages 151 to 166) covers circles, 2-D and 3-D shapes, symmetry and patterns.
A word on word problems
Word problems appear at the end of the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division sections. They are where a child learns to decide which operation to use. Read each problem aloud, ask your child to say it in their own words, draw a quick picture, and only then write the sum.
Why this book?
- A clear order from place value to geometry.
- Every lesson is listed, so you know what is coming next.
- Word problems and a four-operations practice section.
