What is this book?
In Class 5 English the child writes full paragraphs, reads longer texts, learns grammar rules and speaks in discussions. We Learn English 5 organises this around themes: ethics and values, peace, role models, nature, climate and the environment, sports, travel, patriotism and life skills.
The contents is a detailed grid. For every unit it lists the reading texts and their types (narrative, expository, interpersonal, persuasive), the themes (for example Self, people, places and globe, Crisis awareness and management, Participatory citizenship), then the reading and critical thinking, vocabulary and grammar, writing and oral communication skills with the starting page.
The texts are well chosen for Pakistani children. They include the Shandoor Polo Festival (hills, rivers and the sport of polo), a text on climate change, a story about a boy who saved his school, the poem Our Flag, railways and aeroplanes, Christopher Columbus, a time machine story, a diary, the Olympic games and the school magazine.
