What is this book?
The book handles a big syllabus with the familiar Oxford routine: chapter opener, In Focus questions, Let's Learn, Activity Time and Practice. By Class 5 the lessons ask for more reasoning, and many chapters finish with real-life problems about money, distance and time.
The contents list shows nine chapters. The page behind it suggests that more chapters follow, on geometry and data.

Why Class 5 matters
Class 5 is the last primary year and the maths habits formed now carry into Class 6. Fractions, decimals and percentage are three ways of writing the same idea, and the book shows how to move between them. A child who can change a fraction into a decimal and a percentage is well prepared for secondary maths.
Ratio, average and the unitary method
These three topics close the printed list. Ratio compares quantities, average finds a fair share, and the unitary method (finding the value of one unit first) solves many real-life problems about price, speed and work. They look new to a ten-year-old, but they are built on tables and fractions learned in earlier years.
Why this book?
- A complete bridge from primary to secondary maths.
- Fractions, decimals and percentage are taught as one connected idea.
- Real-life problems for ratio, average and the unitary method.
Who is it for, and when is it used?
It is for Class 5 children at Army Public Schools, about ten years old. It is the textbook used in class during the session, and a parent can use the contents page to plan revision before term tests.
How to help at home
- Ask your child to find the average of the family's test marks or daily steps.
- Use shop prices to practise percentage and the unitary method.
- Draw ratio bars for recipes: two cups of rice to three cups of water.
- Turn every fraction into a decimal and a percentage on a small chart.
- Keep a notebook of formulas and rules learned in each chapter.
