What is this book?
Know Your World is a social studies series from Oxford for English-medium primary schools. The Class 3 book starts with the child's own world (what people buy and sell, markets, jobs), then widens to the rules and responsibilities of a community, then to Pakistan (its place in the world, its rivers and its leaders) and finally to the Earth and the environment (weather, habitats, resources, soil, water and waste).
The chapters are short and numbered by unit (1.1, 1.2 and so on), which makes the book easy to teach and to revise: chapters are 2 to 4 pages long in the first three units and up to 5 pages in the last unit. A parent can pick one chapter for the evening.
The topics are practical and local: Fishing: One Way to Make a Living, Local Government and a Pledge, The Rivers of Pakistan, Our Quaid, Allama Iqbal, Fertile Soil: A Natural Resource and Solid Waste Disposal.
