What is this book?
Book 1 is the first maths book of primary school. It is big for a Class 1 book (227 pages) because it is also the practice book: every small topic has its own lesson, and each lesson lists on the contents page exactly what it teaches. The pace is slow and visual. Children count with objects, write numerals and words, add and subtract with pictures and then meet money, fractions, patterns, measurement, the clock and shapes.
Notice how the chapters are ordered: numbers first, operations second, real-life topics third. Chapter 1 is the biggest (33 pages) because every number group from 11 to 99 gets its own lesson.

The chapters in four groups
Numbers (chapter 1). From the concept of ten to 99, with place value in tens and ones, before-after-between and ordinal numbers (first, second, third).
The four operations (chapters 2 to 6). Addition and subtraction without regrouping, money, multiplication as repeated addition and division as repeated subtraction. The first two have pictures to help.
Parts and patterns (chapters 7 and 8). Halves and quarters, patterns and shapes.
The world around us (chapters 9 to 12). Comparing lengths and weights, telling the time (including Islamic months), positions (above and below, near and far) and a first look at data with tally charts.
Why this book?
- Every lesson is small and named, so a parent can see what each page practises.
- It uses Pakistani money (notes and coins) and Islamic months as well as solar months, which are part of a Pakistani child's daily life.
- The Single National Curriculum 2020 note on the cover shows that it follows the national syllabus.
Who is it for, and when is it used?
Who: Class 1 children at Allied School and other schools using AEP | Arvo Education Press books, and parents who help with numbers. When: all through the school year. Chapter 1 is usually the first term's work, chapters 2 to 4 follow, and chapters 5 to 12 are for the later part of the year. Why the page ranges matter: the book is thick, so the ranges help a parent to see the weight of each chapter: whole numbers 33 pages, money 16 pages, time 17 pages.
How to help at home
- Count everyday things together: stairs, spoons, shoes.
- Use real coins for the money chapter and play shop.
- Cut a roti into halves and quarters for chapter 7.
- Hang a clock where the child can see it and ask "what time is it?" at meals.
- Make a tally chart of the colours of cars you see on the road.
