What is this book?
It is a simplified edition of the classic adventure by Jules Verne. A wealthy Englishman, Phileas Fogg, makes a bet that he can travel around the world in eighty days, and sets out with his servant Passepartout. The chapter titles show how far they go: India, a prison, a journey to Hong Kong, a journey across America and a sea captain's role for Mr Fogg, and an ending that gives the book its twist.
The Oxford Progressive English Readers are graded, which means the language is made suitable for learners of English, with shorter sentences and a controlled vocabulary. Grade 3 is a good level for a Class 6 student who is ready for a full story with ten chapters.

Why a reader like this helps in Class 6
A graded reader lets a student read a whole book from start to finish in English, which builds speed, vocabulary and confidence. The Introduction at the beginning (page vi) tells the background of the story, and the Questions and Activities section at the end (page 85) tests understanding and gives writing and speaking tasks.
How to read it
Read one chapter at a time, about eight pages. After each chapter, say what happened in three sentences. Find three new words and use each in your own sentence. On a map, trace the journey as you read: England, India, Hong Kong, America and back. When you finish, try the Questions and Activities at the end.
