What is this book?
Class 5 is the last year of primary school and the maths is close to the first year of secondary. Maths Wise 5 has nine units that carry the child over the bridge: whole numbers and operations (all four operations with big numbers), highest common factor and least common multiple, fractions, decimal numbers and percentage, the unitary method, geometry, measurement of length, mass, capacity and time, perimeter and area and data handling and probability.
Two units are new to this stage: percentage (joined with decimals in unit 4) and the unitary method (unit 5), a way to solve problems such as "if 5 pens cost Rs 100, what do 8 pens cost?". Both topics are heavily used in Class 6 and in everyday shopping.
At the back are a Review and Assess section (page 117, 23 pages), answers (page 140) and a glossary, so the book can be used for self-study.

Data and review (unit 9 onwards, pages 103–145). Data handling and probability, then a 23-page review and assess section, answers (page 140) and a glossary.
