How the units connect
The book widens its view as it goes.
- Unit 1 starts with the child's own world: the neighbourhood, villages and cities, and what parents and neighbours do for a living.
- Units 2 and 3 turn to behaviour: sharing, treating others well, learning from mistakes, obeying traffic rules and knowing which public services keep a town running.
- Unit 4 lifts the view to the country and its cultures.
- Unit 5 looks at where food and goods come from, with crops and livestock.
- Units 6 and 7 finish with plants and animals, our planet and water resources.

Linking chapters to daily life
Social Studies is easiest to understand when children can connect it to the world they see every day. Here are a few ideas for the seven units.
- Our world and immediate environment: talk about where you live, whether a village or a city, and the work that people in your street do.
- Ethics and values: after a small quarrel, ask, "How could we share? What could we do better next time?"
- Responsible citizenship: point out traffic signals and zebra crossings on the way to school.
- Patriotism and our country: on national days, talk about what makes Pakistan special and its different cultures.
- Goods and services: visit a shop and ask what is made, grown or sold.
- Life sciences and earth science: look at plants and animals around you and at where water comes from.
Ask your child to tell you about one chapter each week as if they were the teacher. Explaining it in their own words is the best way to find out what they have understood.
