What is inside?
The sample page we show gives a good picture of the layout. Each school day has its own numbered entry with:
- a Message line for the teacher to write on;
- a small row of weather icons for marking the day's weather;
- a Teacher's Signature line;
- a Parent's Message line for the reply.
The diary therefore works in both directions, not just from school to home. Alongside the daily entries there is a small tick-list of good-relationship behaviours, such as being helpful and sharing things, and also a line for noting when a child has told a lie. This turns "How was school today?" into something more specific than a one-word answer.
Why schools ask for a diary at Prep
A five-year-old cannot yet report their own day reliably. Ask "What did you do?" and many children say "Nothing." A two-way daily note is often the only real information a parent gets about what actually happened in class. It also gives the teacher a quick way to tell a parent about a lost item, a cough, a proud moment or a worry.
How the two-way diary helps
- Parents see small things early. A short note about difficulty with sharing or a new friend is easy to act on at home.
- Teachers hear from parents. A parent can write that the child slept badly, is anxious, or is excited about something, and the teacher can respond.
- Children see that home and school talk to each other. That makes the school feel safe.
- A record builds up. At the end of the term, the diary shows how the child has grown.
How to use it well at home
- Make it a nightly habit: look at the diary together after school, before dinner.
- Read the teacher's message aloud and ask your child to tell you about it.
- Write a short, kind and specific reply. Mention one thing the child did well.
- Sign each entry so the teacher knows you have read it.
- Keep the diary in the school bag every day so that it is never missing when the teacher needs it.
Talking to your child about the tick-list
The tick-list is not about blame. If the teacher marks that a child shared or helped, praise the child at home. If a line says that the child told a lie, treat it calmly: ask what happened and why, explain why truth matters, and thank the child for telling you. Children at this age learn honesty by seeing that the truth is safe.
Who is it for?
Prep children at Allied Schools, and their parents and teachers. If your campus uses a different diary, ask the class teacher which one is required.
Why this book?
- It is the school's own channel of communication.
- It supports good habits: helping, sharing and honesty.
- It makes parent meetings easier, because both sides already have notes.
Is it right for Allied School Prep and session 2027-28?
On this site it is shown under Allied School Prep. If your school's 2027-28 list names My Success Track (Prep), this is the diary. Send us your list on WhatsApp and we will tell you what we can get for you.

Making the diary work
A school diary only helps if both sides use it every day. A few small habits make it useful.
- Look at it each evening, at the same time, and sign the page.
- Write a short, polite message in the parent's box: a late night, a cough, a change in pick-up.
- Read the teacher's note first and talk to your child about it in a positive way.
- If a tick-list shows a concern, ask your child about it calmly and write a short reply to the teacher.
- Keep the diary in the school bag so it is never forgotten, and write the date clearly.
Used this way, the diary becomes a two-way conversation, and small problems are caught early.
