What is this book?
Physics Paper 1 is a multiple-choice paper, and the best way to prepare is to do many questions on one topic at a time. This book arranges the past-paper questions by topic, following the new syllabus order exactly: each chapter and sub-topic has a number and a page.
The six sections are the six topics of the syllabus. General Physics (pages 7–142) is the biggest, with physical quantities and measurement, motion, mass and weight, density, forces, momentum, energy, work and power, and pressure. Thermal Physics (143–190) covers the kinetic particle model, thermal properties and the transfer of thermal energy. Properties of Waves (191–259) covers general wave properties, light, the electromagnetic spectrum and sound. Electricity and Magnetism (260–366) covers magnetism, electrical quantities, circuits, practical electricity, electromagnetic effects and the oscilloscope. Atomic Physics (367–391) covers the nuclear atom and radioactivity. Space Physics (392–397) covers the Earth, the solar system, stars and the universe.
The cover lists the features that matter for revision: classified in 25 chapters and 82 sub-topics, mark schemes, all variants and all questions, question order from new to old and reference of repeated questions added. The book ends with an Answers Key (page 398).

How to use a topical past-paper book
- Finish the topic in class first (for example 1.2 Motion).
- Do all the questions of that topic (pages 20 to 38) without looking at the answers.
- Check with the Answers Key (page 398) and the mark schemes, and write down every mistake.
- Come back to the weak topic after one week and try again.
- Use the "new to old" order: the newest questions come first and are the most like the next exam.
What the contents tell you
- General Physics is the largest section (136 pages), so it needs the most time.
- Properties of Waves and Electricity and Magnetism together have 175 pages and are full of diagram questions.
- Atomic Physics and Space Physics are short, so they are quick marks for a student who learns the facts.
Why this book?
- The questions are classified by topic in the order of the new syllabus.
- The cover promises mark schemes, all variants, all questions and questions from new to old.
- Repeated questions are cross-referenced, so a student sees what examiners ask again and again.
- An Answers Key at the end (page 398) helps with self-marking.
Who is it for, and when is it used?
Who: O Level students (Class 9 and 10) who take Cambridge Physics 5054 Paper 1, and their teachers. When: through the two years of the course, topic by topic, and in the last three months as full revision. Page numbers: thermal physics starts on page 143, waves on page 191, electricity on page 260 and the answers key on page 398.
How to help at home
- Do 20 multiple-choice questions a day from one topic and mark them at once.
- Keep a list of formulas for each section on one page (for example speed, density, pressure, power).
- Draw a quick diagram for each question you get wrong.
- Review the repeated questions first: examiners often ask them again.
- Use your course book to study the topic and this book to practise it.
