What is Global English Workbook 2?

Global English is the Cambridge University Press course for the Cambridge Primary English as a Second Language curriculum. The Workbook is the companion of the Learner's Book: after each lesson in class, children use the workbook to practise the same words and patterns in writing. At Stage 2 the grammar grows: possessions, "where" questions, the present continuous for ongoing actions, and the past simple — both regular and irregular verbs.

What your child practises in Workbook 2

Phonics: review of short vowels (1.5), vowels followed by r (2.5), long vowel sounds (3.5), long i (4.5), words that sound the same (5.5) and rhyming words with long e (6.5).
Grammar: talking about possessions, saying where things are, describing ongoing actions, the past simple with regular and irregular verbs, and writing questions.
Reading: Bear and Turtle have a race, Our trip to the Moon, Little Ant and other short texts.
Science and maths links: light and shadow, the Sun, Earth, Moon and stars, measuring long ago, counting to ten in different ways, insects and spiders.

How to use it

Do the workbook lesson on the same day as the Learner's Book lesson, while the new words are fresh. Read the task aloud, let the child try alone, then correct together. The "Check your progress" page at the end of each unit is a good revision sheet before school tests.
